Hello all...Just me...Mr Nothing with another dumb question....I have been looking at profiles and titles here lately and was wondering....Am I the only Indian (not ethnic)...I mean I see a multitude of descriptions....Chief....Asst. Chief.....Training Officer......Captain....But I see very few just plain old in the dirt Firefighters......What gives....?  I want to hear your experiences....your views....the way that you "get 'er done"....Its OK to hear from the Brass once in a while....and please don't get me going about our Journalistic folks that have never even had a set of turn-outs on their backs preaching on how we are doing things wrong.....BUT...How about some words from the Jakes out there....? I know you have things to say....lets hear from you once in awhile......Strange, seems everyone here has some kind of title....Is that because they are the only ones with the time...or is it because some want to "play" Officer and portray themselves in that mode....?   Later all....Take care, Stay safe, Keep the Faith......From the Pain in the a_ _.......Paul   (see web chief...I can clean it up)

I'm just a plain old indian (not ethnic) and I'm happy that way. I admire the good officers and the bad ones...well....they usually don't last too long. But personally I wouldn't want to make myself out to be anything other than what I am. I wouldn't want the headache to be an officer (not that it's too much responsiblity I just don't think I'm qualified). I mean seriously I don't have the patience or the disposition to ever be an officer. If I was made an officer all wankers would be shot on sight. And that's just for starters.

There wouldn't be too many people left in the world.... ;-)
In my case TRAINING OFFICER, means very little at the fire scene, more than likely I'm just another grunt. Training nights are different however.

Not too much responsibility? WTF? :-)
Well...I like to think of myself as a pretty responsible person lutan.
Personally, sometimes I would love to be just another Indian. Problem is, that would put the Ibuprofen makers out of business!
I don't have a title Paul.
There may be some who, as you alledge, don't deserve their titles. Many, however, have earned them after having been "indians" for many years. They're easy to spot. I work for one.
Norm....Never said they don't "deserve" it, if in fact they even have it....I am just amazed that everyone (or most everyone) here seems to have some title or another....I find it quite amusing in fact.......try reading what is written, not what you want to see.......
Hopefully what is written is the truth. I always give people the benefit of the doubt = "innocent until proven guilty"
Does this count. I'm a volunteer firefighter EMR. Low man in the house, low man on the bus, and happy happy happy. You won't see bars or bugles on my uniform, ever. Love it where I'm at.
Why would all wankers be shot on sight? I know many wankers that make up some of the best firefighters I have ever met.

And as for it not being a headache, or to much responsibility. The idea of making sure all your men come home at the end of the tour is a big weight to carry on your shoulders. (Not a big responsibility at all)

Now when you say responsible do you mean you can pay all your bills on time because thats a good thing but just because your responsible doesnt mean you can handle the responsibility of being an officer.
