The dept im on we are in the process of setting up at cadet program for our volunteer fire dept. I was wondering if any can give me some pointers are things we can do to get it started.

Yep, Roy and that is exactly what the Learning for Life spells out. The rules are set forth and clear, too bad that there isn't a standard across the board for every dept.

ive heard of states letting them do everything except interior attack but they must be fully trained and have completed like a 3 month probationary period i think they also get there own assigned gear but it depends on state laws and diffrent rules for diffrent depts
Should you choose to start a Cadet, Junior, of Fire Explorer Post, whatever you want to call them... they should all have one common theme... that it is a 100% learning environment and not for ANY reason, be an emergency response resource for the department.
