I am heading to the Washington, D.C. area for a Air Force duty rotation and being a fire fighter, am wanting to stop and see and stay as many different departments across the country as I can. Any assistance with departments to stop at and crash your couches, patches/shirts/hats to pass along for my department/college/self, or just taking pictures would be GREATLY appericated.
Get in touch with these guys www.cpvfd.org when you arrive in DC. It's the station at the University of Maryland and they used to have a pretty good ride along program if you want to see how the boys do it in PG County. If you are a true gluttion for punishment, check out http://www.kentland33.com/ or http://www.morningsidevfd.com/ These stations are in a slightly more "active" part of town. They ain't pretty, but they are dammed good fire fighters. Morningside is about a kilometre from the front gates of AAFB, so you could probably walk there.
Not sure if you're going to Andrews AFB, but I really don't recommend walking anywhere outside of the fenceline unless you have a detail of OIS agents to go with you. It's not a very friendly area if you catch my drift.
Not sure of your route but along I-95 there are alot of Departments to see....City of RIchmond Va, Henrico COunty VA, Hanover COunty VA, Caroline COunty Va, Spotsylvania County VA, Stafford COunty Va, City of Fredricksburg Va, Prince William County Va, Fairfax County Va, Arlington County Va, City of Alexandria Va, Quantico Marine Corps Base FD, Andrews Air Force Base FD, Fort AP Hill FD, and of course all of DCFD.
A short drive into MAryland will also have alot to offer with PG county, City of Baltimore and Baltimore County. If you want some specific stations to see just PM me or email me and Ill let you know what I think are some cool ones.
