ALTON, N.H. - A 22-year veteran of the Alton Fire Department has been charged with setting fire.

Officials say Stark Liedtke (LIT-key) faces charges in connection with four fires but confessed to setting 11 blazes in Alton and New Durham since 2006. Most of the fires were in abandoned buildings.

Authorities became suspicious when they found Liedtke on Friday night in an area where a prowler had been reported and smelled gasoline on him. An arson dog found two bottles of gasoline stashed in the woods nearby.

Liedtke was ordered held on $30,000 bail during a hearing Monday in Laconia District Court.

Defense attorney John Bresaw cited Liedtke's cooperation in arguing for lower bail.

Liedtke has been fired from the Alton Fire Department.

Guess we best hold off and not prejudge this individual, hopefully he will get the help it seems he needs and never be a threat to the community or the brotherhood again.
Just like the dudes that stole money from their department, I cannot find any way of feeling sorry for this guy. Not like he accidentally set a fire, he confessed to setting many. I seriously doubt that they tortured a confession out of him. Yep, the guy needs help. Yep he put yet another black mark on the profession of firefighting. I am sorry, I can't feel bad for this poor excuse for a firefighter (or should I say - former firefighter). The ones I feel bad for, are his family, his friends, and his former department. I am hoping this is the last time I hear of any firefighter setting fires. Wholleeee crap man. wtf is going on?
