KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - A Knox County woman who used an oxygen tank for medical reasons has died after a cigarette apparently ignited the gas, which she breathed though a face mask.

A Knox County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman said 65-year-old Margaret E. Kula was found dead in a bathroom of her home Thursday morning. Spokeswoman Martha Dooley told The Knoxville News Sentinel Kula was last seen alive about 1 a.m. and her husband found her body at 5:26 a.m.

Rural/Metro Fire Chief Jerry Harnish said there were no witnesses to the incident, but a cigarette butt was found in the bathroom and the victim had burns on her face. Harnish said there was no explosion.

Dooley said the death appears accidental and the cause is listed as undetermined until the medical examiner files a report on it.

Must be making oxygen differently than they used to!
Too bad we couldn't have removed her from the gene pool earlier....
Thinking the same thing Oldman....I hope that was not what the FD lists as the official cause.
Accidental? We use that word more often than we should, don't we?
Every medic has run a call on a COPD patient. Once in a while they'll say - just before you move them to the cot - "Can I please smoke just one more before we go?"
