I love the style of the traditional helmet. We are issued the modern bullard px style helmets. Just wondering if anyone out there has worn both and what your thoughts are about the differences comfort and performance wise. Like to know everyone's thoughts on this. Stay safe out there brothers and sisters.
When I first joined I was given a leather New Yorker. Then we were told years later we would start wearing Metro 660s.
Since then there as been a mix of helmets from the traditional style helmets to Metro style that the county offers to all personnel. If you want to buy it as long as it meets standards.
I have my own leather I keep at home and have a three Metros one is my own and two the county gave me.
I know the leathers were heavy and the Metros are light so in someway both had a way of working out for me.
all of the comand staff on my dept are issued traditional style helmets while fire fighters get a newer style helmet which is lighter than the traditional ones, some times i miss the lighter helmet both seem to protect the same, but the the traditional just weights more
I have worn both, the new helmets are a little lighter, somewhat smaller, but the traditional helmets look a hell of a lot cooler with the right shield

Leather forever baby!!! Worn a New Yorker since 1987. (I was out of the fire service for a few years. Got a new N5A when I got back in)
Yea its heavy but I wouldn't trade it. Started wih a 770 Philly in 1980
I've worn both from cairns metro 660 to the N5a and N6a. I liked the philly helmet the worst helmet ive worn was the lion legend traditional style they are uncomfortable. But always leather forever
I have worn them all, including the euroen style helmets that look more like fighter pilot helmets. My overall preference is the paul conway american classic(fiberglass) or american heritage(leather) with goggles. My in service helmets are currently american classics, i say traditional all the way, but, it's just my opinion..
We have the modern Bullard PX/FX helmets...
Plain, no markings. Just reflective stickers.
But we are switching over to the Bullard UST "traditional look" helmets (with face shields) as money permits.
Chief says we will be getting custom leather name plates for the fronts when we get the new helmets.
That should ramp up the "envy factor" on mutual aid scenes... LOL!
