I became a first responder in 1995 and an EMT-B in 1997. I worked for a year parttime then until I started dating my wife. Between her, the fire department, EMS and some other organizations I was involved with something had to go and since EMS was the newest on my list I pulled back on that and just worked as a first responder with our fire department.

The past year my time freed up and some of my priorities changed. I got recertified as an EMT-B (I know, I shouldn't have let it lapse). Our local hospital announced last month that there were 3 openings for an EMT-B and I applied. Got the call last week that I was one of the ones selected.

I will be scheduling my orientation this week and ride-along time. I'm excited about it. I have always had strong ties to the EMS and the past several years have helped teach many first responder classes too.

Congrats!!!
Thanks Ralph. Our fire dept works closely w/ the EMS and I've always kept close ties there from when I worked there before. Many times we ride in with them to assist in the back. But it never hurts to be reminded of things you should be aware of, sometimes we forget the most common things.

they just switched about 9 months ago to the powered cots, boy that sure made things alot easier.

I've owned our retail business for 20 years and am use to dealing w/ all kinds and ages of people. I feel that in retail and EMS it is essential to be a people person. I've defused many a situation just by listening to someone. It's amazing how cooperative most people become if you give them a chance to say their peace.

But no matter how much experience I have working w/ them there is always things to learn and improve on.

Congrats! And dont feel bad about letting your cert lapse... After losing track of hours, I let my cert go about two months ago. :( Guess I gota renew it when I have the time.
