They're both great movies.

Backdraft is older, so the special effects are better in Ladder 49. They both contain some sort of romanticism, and they both have sad points as well.

I suggest renting both, although I personally like Ladder 49 better. But Backdraft is a very close second, and is a classic.

LADDER 49 but I am a little bias. John *** Engine - 33 Pinellas Park Fire Department

BOTH ARE GREAT MOVIES.... BUT I HAVE TO GO WITH LADDER 49...
This is one of the scariest threads I've read in quite some time.
Ladder 49 of course. Backdraft was a great movie but Ladder 49 told a better story and showed what real Firefighting Families go through on a daily bases.
I thought Backdraft was based on a true story
I myself liked Backdraft the best. Ladder 49 was a little slow going for my taste. But as all here are saying both are real good movies. Appart from a lot of "HOLLYWOOD" moments in them. And Ron I have not heard of the FDNY: Brothers In Battle movie. Can it be rented or where do you find it?
didnt know they had that im so buying that for myself (early christmas)
Backdraft is an awesome movie even though it is a little far fetched in most parts. Ladder 49 is also a great movie that is more realistic. Both are #1 in my opinion, I'd rent, or better yet buy, both and get it over with.
Rent both backdraft is a classic and ladder 49 is a great movie
