About how many calls do you run on a normal day? The VFD here mostly runs 1 call a day but sometimes they'll go 5, 6 days with none . The paid Dept close to here SAFD runs a average of 4-6 calls daily. Be Safe
The station I am at now runs between 2 and 8 a day/night (10 or 14 hour shift), total for last year for the pump was just under 2800. Our busiest station ran 3300, an average of 9 a day (but more realistically 4 some days and 15 others). We also have a station that ran just under 300 calls last year... not a bad place to be if you're studying for a promotional exam.
Of the five departments in my county(only one department has paid staff)) we are the busiest. Between four stations we ran over 3200 calls last year, that's the first time in the five years that I've been on we've gone over 3000 for the year. As for daily, you never know. One station could have five or six calls that day and the other three have nothing at all, or all four stations could be running call after call all day long. My station will have times were we won't have a call for three days and the first call that comes in, everyone and their brother shows up to a nose bleed.
We cover a small area (about 2500 population) and last year we had about 76 fire and rescue calls and approx 180 medical first responder calls. Some months were as little as 2 fire calls and 10 first responder.
Our volunteer fire company doesn't run that many calls per day. We only do about 200-300 per year so that averages out to be less than 1 per day. Our jurisdiction is mostly county and municipal buildings so that only is about 8 structures or so. Our neighboring fire companies in our township run more calls than we do probably closer to 1,000 per year and we do a lot of mutual aid calls with them.
Our Dept. ran a little over 47,000 last year. We have 19 stations and run 24 hour shifts with 48 hours off. The station I am at will run anywhere from 5 to 15 in a 24 hour shift.
well last night my engine alone ran 6 calls in an hour during the wind storms. i dont even know how many the other trucks ran. normally though we are pretty 'q word'
