I'm new here. I ran the "search" function and didn't find anything on
"privately owned" apparatus. How many of you out there have your
own apparatus that you are preserving? Any pictures? Any stories?
Has anyone sought out an old apparatus from their department and
gotten it back and broguth it back to life?

This is an interesting part of the fire service that a lot of folks don't
know about. It is part of the fire service history.

Comments? Thanks.

PS...Wonderful site and forums!

The LSU football Team has our first engine an Open Cab Seagrave. It still has our name on the side of it and is still our colour. They use it durnin some of there half time showes. They drive the tiger around it. Our next engine is in a barn right next to the hall im working on getting it fixed up. Its a 76 Ford Cabover. But as far as me ownin a peace of App. not at this time. Well some ppl in our community think my Chevy Silverauto is our rescue truck because I respond in it to most medical calls. Im not a driver as of yet, but i do get the o2 and AED out of the truck when i respond if no drivers go. I have my own fully stocked medical jump bag does that count? lol
You can start your own group spot on here and maybe gain some members for it. I know many friends that have a number of old units. Some of them could start their own fire company. They even built garages that look like a fire station to house them.
One fire company in our area their members own all of the units that the fire company has owned since it started.
Well, how about us using this thread to start a collection of information
and photos of privately owned fire apparatus? Works for me. I did put
photos of my apparatus in the "photos" section but they get buried pretty
quickly. Here we could admire our rigs and discuss them. Here's a couple
of pics of my apparatus. Both are fully equipped and fully operational.

Show us what ya got!

Nice lookin rigs there numbah 4, we had a 59 Chev C70 and 60 Mack B model we lost to 6 feet of water in Katrina.
Thats Brentwood MD isn't it? I seen your Ford at the convention in Upper Marlboro.
I know many in the area that have private own units. The family from Hillside VFD MD that have units from Hillside.
There are a few I would like to see again from the different fire companies around that have disappeared years ago.
LOTS OF FIRE BUFF/ TRUCK AND EQUIPMENT RESTORATION ACTIVITY GOING ON... TONS OF THINGS GOING ON WITH GROUPS LIKE S.P.A.M.F.F.A. GO TO THIER SITE AND JOIN A LOCAL CHAPTER TO REALLY GET INVOLVED WITH THE TRUE PURIST THAT HAVE A VARIETY OF BACKGROUNG WITH OLD TRUCKS AND EQUIPMENT. WE HAVE RESTORED OUR OLD 1946 CHEVY TRUCK IN MY DEPT. AND... IM A LOCAL SHRINER THAT WAS INVOLVED IN A PARADE UNIT.. RESTORING AND PARADING AN OLD 1917 LAFRANCE TRIPLE COMBINATION PUMPER IN OUR COMMUNITY TO RAISE MONEY FOR BURNED AND CRIPPLED CHILDREN.

BY THE WAY... S.P.A.A.M.F.F.A.... IS ....THE SOCIETY FOR PRESERVATION AND APPRECIATION OF ANTIQUE MOTORIZED FIRE APPRATUS OF NORTH AMERICA.. GREAT ORGANIZATION THATS BEEN AROUND FOR MANY YEARS!!!
I'm a member (and assistant regional director) of the Old Dominion Historical Fire Society
and, yes, a Life Member of Brentwood MD VFD. That is why I lettered my units for that FD
even though we never owned a Seagrave or a Ford-Darley (although we DID own a 1935
International-Darley). ODHFS is a chapter of SPAAMFAA by the way. Back in 1967-68 I was a
member at Hyattsville VFD when they had 2 stations (1 and 41). I even have the old patch that shows both company numbers! ! was downtown on Farragut Street and 41 was the station on
Belcrest Road that is now 1. (Showing my age!) I've ridden on that 1957 Pirsch a few times!
REAL fire apparatus!
If I dream about owning an engine would that count?
Before I was married I tried to buy several engines but I was never the higest bidder. After I was married
my wife told me that I could buy an engine if I gave her a kid or a dog. It is 30 years later and she has had 3 kids, 4 dogs, a cat and I still do not have my engine.
PM me! I have several leads on some really affordable antique/classic
apparatus! And they are turn-key full equipped drive-aways!

Where are you located? I'm in Virginia in the Chesapeake Bay region.

Wonder what happened to this thread? There have been several other threads that are dealing with private ownership and apparatus restoration. Maybe the mods can consolidate them?

I know there are many folks right here tha own their own fire apparatus!  Let's hear from you!

Newest addition(s) to the fleet!

I live in the city where all the Darley trucks are put together. I toured their facility when I was way younger and only 1 building at the time on the site and now it is 2-3 buildings on the site and tons of trucks.
