I have a dodge ram 1500 w/ a bench seat. I have a radioshack/bearcat scanner with external speaker. Also a 6 switch, switchbox for my lights. My truck is a redneck mobile so of course it has a cb. without spending a bunch of money on a console to put everything in, has anyone come up with a design they use in a truck similar to mine? I found a horizontal tower for 69.99 on Galls, but with the 4WD shifter on the floor, it wont fit. Any ideas?

How about a headliner console....? orks good, looks good and its not in the way all the time....By the way.....Is it legal in your area to have a mobile scanner..?? Might want to check this one out.....Stay safe...Keep the Faith...Paul
Oh yea, we're allowed to have scanners. Officers are allowed to have a mobile radio mounted in their vehicle too. right now, the scanner it self is under my seat, with the external speaker mounted in the rear seat, actually mounted on the ceiling above the rear slide window. I've never seen a headliner console. can you point me in the right direction to find one?
Cabelas used to sell them...as did JC Whitney...I am sure if you googled a search that you could find one....I had one in one of my older trucks....Good luck....Paul
wat year.....um if you could send a pic i could probly fig something out....in the fabrication bus. as far as headliner consoles go...idk for some reason you roll it....demisions would be good....for the space radios and wat not....built the custom consoles for our rigs
Its a 97 Dodge. I sit pretty high in the seat cuz im 6'1 and my head would hit on a headliner console. I sat in the truck for about an hour looking around at different configurations I could setup. The best Idea I thought of was this;
Take out the center seat (nobody uses it, and I dont keep anything in the console it self. My switchbox sits right in front of it, so nobody can sit there anyways. Plus, the 4wd shifter takes up leg space. I found somewhere on google a guy that took his center console out, made a mock-up with cardboard then built it with wood. He then lined it with a interior type carpet, which I still can figure out what kind would be best. I'd like to do that. A scanner, 6 switch, switch box, CB, plus the strobe lights in the headlights switch. The cup holders tht are factory are really worthless, anything smaller then a large cup from Burger king tips over because there are no adjusters on it. So I'd probably add the cupholders towards the front of the console. The power supply for the strobes sits under my seat currently. The scanner and external speaker also sit there. Its very difficult to change volume, or lockout a channel while driving with its location. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

Just a few pictures,
Have you thought about putting any of that equipment in the dash?
Well I decided to go with a homemade console. Got about 75% done. I tried putting pictures on here but it didn't work. I just need to get a top made and put the carpetting on it.
Make one, mine is made with thin steel, about the thickness of a street sign.I have seen them made with lumber and plywood, you said you have a redneck mobile and I am a redneck so with guys like us the possibilities are endless. Mine is set to angle toward the seats with the top of the radio, siren, scanner up. My equipment is stacked but kind of between horizontal and vertical.
Hey Zach,

I've done this in a couple of my vehicles. What I do is to take a couple of pieces of poster board or foam board and build a prototype. You can adjust it as necessary and make sure it fits, then transfer your pattern to wood or metal.
