I try to stop as often as i can but it depends on what I am doing at the time. If I am on my way to work I will call it in but I cant be late for work so I wont stop. Dont let the lights fool you my wife drives my truck all the time and she has no medical training at all so she wont stop either.
I agree with John.
I would stop call it in and give med care if needed. I carry PPE and full medical bag in my pov I also have lights. So yes I would stop. That is what I do.
I'll stop if there is no one already on scene. If firefighters/EMT's are already on scene, I'll drive by. I figure they have it under control. I know I wouldnt like a volunteer stopping at my dept's scene if we were already there.
I stop out of district in my pov even when it is a minor accident with responders on scene and immediately assume command!
It depends on the scene. Use common sense. I will stop if there is no emergency personel around and check on things, and check with dispatch to see if they have recieved notification of a MVA.
Its always great to stop and help but................
MAKE SURE THE SCENE IS SAFE
Just because it looks like your typical 1 or 2 vehicle MVC doesnt mean that there isn't a road rage incident between the drivers, or a domestic with two people in one vehicle, or another big one is a dog protecting its master from a stranger, especially if its master is injured or unconscious. I will stop and try and help if no one is on scene yet, but like most everyone has said im not going to stop and be that crazy wacker from the town down the road if there is already personnel on scene.

So, if I understand this correctly; not only would you stop at a scene that is outside of your jurisdiction, but you would assume command as well?
Not in my district. You would be told by the cops to leave.
We appreciate offers of assistance, but if it's not needed, we send them on their way.
But we would never allow someone else to assume command at any of our incidents.

Yeah John now that i have read your coment i def.... agree with you. im thinking the same thing you are. its seems like everyone else does too lol............
yes true but if you are the type to put them big ligts on your POv then you are standing out that you have the ability to get help when needed.......
Art,

You missed my attempt at humor....I think John had it right in the very first reply on the topic!
i know as an emt u have to stop.. if u are not national certified then u can not do anything, but still stop and call for help... like me tho if it is in the state of pa.. and i pass a wreck or something like it, i could lose my licence...i look at it from both points of view the firefighter view and the emt view...either way i am stopping..
