Thanks Chief, No disrespect toward him, it just got a little out of control.
Don't for get, firefighters need to be tough, sometimes on each other, and
we still can remain brothers. I am sorry Steve left.

My vollie dept, Cape Elizabeth, Maine has a few. However like most, they aren't Sworn Peace Officers, they mostly do traffic control and help out on fire scenes in a variety of roles.

We do. We have 10 Cops that carry turn-out gear in there cars. The only problem I see is if you are counting on them to be on scene and they are busy on "police things" Firefighting takes practice and lots of calls to be good.

Brian, I am not sure if you understand the question, and I say that with
no disrespect, but I am talking about members of the fire department
being involved with fire police, Not police officers that are just that,
police officers. Why do your police officers carry turn out gear ??? Do they
also fight fires ??? I am not sure by your responce to this descussion if
you have fire police in your department or not.

Steve, First off, we are not boy's, we are all men, and we are all here
for the same reason, to protect, and serve our community. It's hard
for me to understand why you said the things you did by putting down
firefighters, calling us hereo's with our turn out gear down around
our ass looking all proud and shit. What kind of statement is that to
say to your fellow brothers. The way I see it, you don't have any respect
for your fellow firefighters, being the Capt. of your fire police has
obvious gone to your head, thinking you are better then your fellow
brothers. Is this a power thing with you, obviously it is. As far as the
hereo statement you made, I must say that all the hereo's I knew, are
dead, making the ultimate sacrafice for their country or community.
I can understand the statement you made, that you have gotten in trouble
more then once for making inappropriate remarks on other site's, and got
throwed off, whatever that means, I beleive you ment thrown off, but
Whatever ........ I beleive you made the right decision, I wish you well

we dont have fire police here in texas. In our small town its difficult to get them to do traffic control . And if they do get in the way they get wet .....if ya know what i mean

My department is a vol dept in central New York were I am a Lieutieant and a fire police. I can say that all the vol depts. have fire police but I cant say if the city depts have fire police. We are sworn peace officers but mostly do traffic control and crowd control at a scene.

Here in Pa. the state certified courses available for fire police are: Basic fire police (16 hrs.), Advaned fire police (16 hrs.), Highway incident traffic control (16 hrs.), Emergency response (16 hrs.), Non-emergency response/ crowd control (16 hrs.), Legal concepts for fire police (16 hrs.), and Communications (16 hrs.)
While some departments don't requires their fire police to be certified in all areas (dumb, dumb, dumb !!), most departments do.
Our department is a combination dept., with 4 volunteer hose companies, and the city fire bureau consisting of 10 paid firefightes. The fire police unit is comprised of volunteers from 3 of the hose companies.
The city also requires it's fire police to have Hazmat R & I , first aid, and CPR certificates.
The state classifies fire police as tactical suppost personnel, and we have done a wide variety of jobs within the department. We control traffic and crowds, we ensure that our fire crews have room to operate on scene and provide security for firefighters and equipment, we assist in evacuations of fire and flood victims and have even monitored water levels in the river and streams that runs through the city.
