We jus received word yesterday that one of our retired members died while in Iraq. After retiring, he took a firefighting job in Iraq. This was his second tour. It appears that he dies of natural causes, he felt ill and went to lay down. We are now planning for his funeral. Some interesting questions have come up. He was working as a firefighter for a private contactor on technically US soil. Does this technicaly qualify as a line of duty death? What about the PSOB benefits? I know he was retired, private contract etc. Just looking for some thoughts.

I just discovered this thread. If he was on a U.S. base, then it's considered U.S. soil and he should be considered a LODD. As far as PSOB benefits, I'm sure the Gov't will find a way to deny them.
God Bless
I do not believe his family got any sort of PSOB benefits, most likely due to the fact that this was a private contractor job. He was working for Wackenhut at the time.
