Good evening, fellow firefighters. In Maine there is a law that would make it a felony to assault a firefighter on the fire ground in performance of his/her duties. Is this a problem? Has it happened to you or anyone you know in the Fire Service. Thank you for all you do. Stay safe, Alex
Hi,
where I'm from i've never heard of FF being assaulted on the fire grounds but there has been a few at the site of a MVA.
I'm not sure what my States law is on assaulting a FF on duty but I think it would be a great idea to make in a felony.
From the moment we get paged till we leave the fire ground, mva, etc...
Assault on a Public Servant, a second degree felony in Texas, punishable with 2 to 20 years in prison. I personally have put 3 there. Or should I say their actions put them there.
I'm non-pack, I was doing accountability tags at a building in town in full gear with no radio. They didnt evacuate the building, people were visibually inside eating. I was told direct orders let no new people in. A guy got pissed I wouldnt let him in, and hes like theres people in there right now. I was like Sir, I'm sorry but I have direct orders not to let anyone in. He goes whatever f-ing whore b-h. I walk towards the door. Five minutes later same thing happens again. Abut 20 minutes later he was so mad I wouldnt let him in after I let the squad go in. He gets pissed that the squad went in and hes like if if anyone else goes in before me, I'll beat the living shit out of you right here right now. Luckily the guys walked out right then and goes he can go in and then curses at me when he passes. The cops had left the scene as soon as we showed up. I was the only one outside and non-pack so couldnt go inside to get help and if I went to truck for radio (5 ft away) I know he would have walked right in. I thought I was gonna get beaten up.
