Hello all, I am new to this site. I spent 4 1/2 years on a volunteer dept in Alaska...I moved out of Alaska 2 years ago to the Denver area, and as you can imagine not much room for volunteers. Now I am in the Seattle/Tacoma area and still not many volunteer dept's to speak of, if any. I would go career, but making money in this profession is just not what I'm looking for. Anyways...22 yrs old, hoping to get back in the game sometime in the near future. I was introduced to this site from a friend, and thought it would help me feel like a part of firefighting/ems for the time being. Thanks for having me!
Welcome to the nation. hope you find what your looking for here and in life! Alaska...... that must have been an experience. Where at in Alaska you from?
oh it was wonderful!!! The best part was going to a fire hoping it was close enough to one of the hydrants. I was already gone by time it happened, but this past December they had a structure fire directly across from the main station.....closest hydrant was 2.5 miles away....it was already a well developed fire by time it was noticed.
We had 2 2500 gal tankers, and one 1500....one of the 2500 gal tankers being directly across from the fire, but being a volunteer station, not everyone was at the station right away to man the hoses and take care of suppression. They ended up calling in 5 other surrounding dept's for assistance with water shuttles and what not.
