It seems every time my husband(LT) and I are going to a family gathering we hear are tones go off everytime were on our way or fixing to sit down to eat. How does your family members react? Just remember as a volunteer its 24/7 365. My hats off to our family members. What are some of your holiday experiences?

Turn off your pager when you are at or going to family functions. You don't have to go to every call. And, if you are that concerned, let others know that you are not going to be available due to a family function for a certain amount of time.
My family has a long bloodline in the fire service so a pager going off in the middle of dinner and a mass exit isn't uncommon. I can relate to this post, seen it enough times in the past 15 years. Another time I hear the pager (and do shut it off) is during some "personal moments."
I shut my pager off for weddings and funerals and as Engineco913 put it "personal moments" and that is about it.

But some times at night the pager goes off and I sleep right threw it.
Could be an idea but on our volunteer department my husband and I are the old faithfuls. LOL
My husband better agree with this one but after a fire when the adrenaline is still high can be a good reason to leave it on
My husband could sleep thru an earthquake but when the tones drop I start throwing on the clothes or hes out the door
unless it is a wedding or funeral or i am just too far out of town to make it..my pager on.. as for the fam thing my family doesnt mind.. i am kinda the one who makes most calls and a few others.. so...plus we my fam all we do it fight anyway...so i would rather leave
Understand this!
Thanks Caleb!
Whenever we are going to b out of town we always text my chief and let him know we are unavailable for runs
We had a structure fire, they lost their garage and we stopped it from going into the home.
Around here my family totally understands, and if another station gets tones we all joke about them thinking I was going out the door.
thanks for the input
