i was just wondering if anyone had ever had a moment where the would want a different job. like when you couldn't save a little kid with cpr did you ever wish you had a desk job? your average 9-5? I guess this would be when the stress of the job got to you or something.

I've thought about it before, I won't lie but I'm glad I stuck it out. I've always kinda wanted to be a cop, so I through the thought of Public Safety out there, that way I get both world's.
Are you kidding? Having worked as a career firefighter for close to 30 years now, I couldn't imagine doing anything else. This is an awesome job that attracts the best of the best. What an honor it is to be able to serve the public.

Living the dream! TCSS, Mike
I would NEVER want to be anchored to a desk....and yes, sometimes on certain calls or immediately afterwards I think "What in the Hell am I doing here..?"...But, I always come back...About 7 months ago I had 3 codes in less that 5 days....the last one being my mother....if it weren't for a lot of support from other EMS people I wouldn't still be doing this today....and I love it so much that I actually Volunteer....and not like I don't get enough at work....I am a Registered Nurse as well......LOL Stay safe and always remember to keep the faith.....Paul
No I love what I do!

Yes there are times that it sucks because we can't save everyone, but you have to look at the ones we do help and the good we do for the public.
I have not had to worry about that, and I hope I never have to. I don't think I could give it up, because there is aways more people who need you. I might have to take some time off.
I've been in this field for about ten years and wouldn't change it for the world. Yes I have thought about of getting off in the past. But now I'm glad that I stuck it out. It is in my blood.Dont get me wrong I've seen my share of the good and the really really bad but it's like I said it's in my blood.
For the last 15.5 years i have been doing 7 other jobs just to keep my fire job . i am a water /waste water operator street supt. plumbing inspector sanitation supt. dog catcher and constable / wow maybe i should change jobs. or get out of this one horse town

it might be in my blood and my 2 son's blood to one is a firefighter emt the other is a dispatcher
I wish I would have become a Firefighter years ago, I used to work on cars for a living and thought there was no other job in the world, until the places I worked for were all the same, Screw the customer over for all they could and I couldn't take that and then I was introduced into the Fire Service and I know there is no better job in the world now. I hope to be able to go more into a full time spot on a department some day.
You are a wiener...
I HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT IT THEN I GET TONED OUT AND I THINK IF I WASNT HERE WHO WOULD DO THE JOB
I sometimes wish that I had pursued a career firefighting job, but my actual career took a different path. But all in all, I'm satisfied with my line of work and I love being a volunteer firefighter.
I wish I was still able to do this job. But I will tell you that most of the career guys I know are counting the days til retirement.
