Celtex Tool Grips
Just asking a quick question about tool grips. I'm looking to order some various tools to outfit
an upcomming rescue / squad type vehicle. I was poking around a few different websites. (All Hands Fire)
for example. I'm seeing some tools with a "Celtex" grip on them. I'm assuming this is some type of foam rubber
stuff that is kinda "squishy" for lack of a better word.
Is anyone using tools coated with this material ? How well is it holding up ? Is it worth the $$ or should I stick
with electrical or hockey stick tape and O2 tubing ??

I recently did our hand tools on our trucks...used the waterproof athletic type adhesive tape...wrapped as you would for a grip on hockey sticks.....works well and most of the guys told me they like it....its easy to do....cheap...and holds up well...don't see any reason to buy something else....never thought of using o2 tubing.....but I can see where it would be just as good as the wound tape underneath......Paul

The Celtex grips are nice. but, eventually they will rip off and need to be replaced. The more they are used, the faster this will happen. One of our guys too a NY hook with the celtex grip and covered the grip like you described. It is know a little thicker and still padded. The guys like it a lot.

I think I'll save the dough and go with the tubing and tape.
As for the O2 tubing. I tape one end down where I want the grip to start and wrap in around the handle about
a gloved finger width apart in a spiral down the handle. Use a little tape along the way to keep it tight and then completely
cover it over with another wrap of tape after that. It's kinda "chunky" and easy to hold onto when the handle gets wet.
