Could someone direct me to a source that would show proper helmet colors for the various officers in the fire department? Shouldn't the Chief be the only one to wear white?
We use white with white front shields for Chief & Asst. Chief, white with red front shields for Capt, blue with blue shield for Safety Officer, red with red shield for Lts, black with red shield for Sgt. Firefighters have black with black shields. Most department around us use the same. It depends on what part of the county you're located on helmet color. I'm not aware of any regs on helmet colors. Back years ago when I joined the Chief worn a white turnout coat and the officers worn red. Glad them days are gone.

Any Chief title should have white, Assistant, Battalion, Deputy ETC. Captains and Lt.s should be either red, like they are on my one dept or on my other dept. they are black like regular firefighters but they have white shields to show the difference. Which I believe the Capt. and Lt.s having red is easier to tell the difference in a quick pinch rather than a white shield.
