NEW SHARON FIRE HOUSE
Body: Investigators are trying to determine how a large fire erupted at a Gloucester County firehouse Monday night.
Flames were reported in the bay of the New Sharon Fire Company station on the 1800 block of Delsea Drive at about 10:30 p.m.
A fast acting firefighter was able to rescue an engine inside the burning building by driving through the bay door, officials said. Despite the efforts, officials are not sure if the engine will be serviceable.
Deptford Fire Chief Stephen Hubbs said a second ladder truck that would normally be in the bay was spared as it was in a nearby body shop getting some paint work.
Crews were also able to salvage some equipment and an antique fire extinguisher, but a four-wheel brush truck was not able to be saved.
Damages from the fire are estimated at over $400,000
Sorry to hear about your loss. If I was a neighboring town I'd volunteer one of our trucks for coverage and help with rebuilding your station.
As Mike said, "equipment can be replaced", but its the little things that have great memories and value that will be greatly missed.
I wish you a speedy recovery as I know our brothers & sisters will come to your aid and help you along the way.
Godspeed.
I'm sorry to hear about your house, but I am happy no one was hurt. Equipment can be replaced and true history lives in our hearts not in some of the stuff that was lost. I am sure that your neighboring FD's will help out in whatever way they can. Is this a volunteer FD? Was there anyone manning the desk watch? I am not being critical, just curious?
