What would you do?????????????
Its Saturday afternoon and you get called out for a 2 car P.I. unknown injuries. Its on a very busy highway just over a hill, you get on scene and find no injuries and both cars are still in the roadway. Your the only person there and cars are coming over the hill @ 60 mph and have to either slam on their brakes or go screaming bye you. What do you do? I call for law but their 10 minutes out. Do you have them move their vehicles off to the shoulder of the road? Do you get the people out of the vehicles and to the shoulder of the road and hope no one hits the cars?
Well I did one of these steps and I'll tell you on Friday what all happened. I want to see what your answers are before I tell you the outcome.

Well here is the rest of the story, I ask the 2 drivers to pull their vehicles off to the side of the road, and they did but one of the drivers decide to pull their vehiclesway off the shoulder and go up over the curb and parks on the grass. I ran up and asked him if he lost his brakes, he said no just getting off the roadway. Now we've got our rescue on seen an ambulance and law. The passenger then states she's got a lot of pain in her back, so we KED board her and remove her from her vehicle. Law was not mad that I asked for the vehicles to be moved. My Assistant Chief was mad that we moved the vehicles when a patient was injured. I told him that they were not complaining of any injuries at the time, and I thought it was to everyones best interests to get the vehicles to the side of the roadway. He was fine then, but still advised me of the risks when I do something like that. I agreed with him. I guess I'm writing this so that everyone else can think of this when they are going to move vehicles to the side of the roadway. Also the passenger that we KED boarded was fine later on, Thank God!

I'd get the cars moved out of the road. If they are not able to be moved I'd get the people out of the cars and to a safe location.

With no injuries and the cars being movable move them to a safe location and make sure to tell all that are responding whats going on and ware you are moving the cars and patients too.

In Tn the law states that if the vehicles are moveable and there are no injuries to move the vehicles out of the road. If they couldnt move al the way out of the road then I would have them get as far over as possible. If I responded in my POV I would move my truck to the top of the hill and turn on every light I had. This is the reason I have lights in my pov. If you did move the vehicle you run the risk of having a rookie or hot headed cop (not all cops are like that but we have all seen them,I dont want to start a fight) getting smart with you. If you dont move the vehicles you run the risk of getting yourself or someone else hurt. The first thing we are taught is scene safety then civillian safety we need to help law enforcement when we can but if it endagers anyone they will have to work around it. They should be able to look at the cars and see who hit who, skid marks and all that good stuff. Stay safe.

No problem here in Maryland. Law states that if no one is injured i.e. minor accident both motorists pull off the road and exchange info....You don't even need PD anymore. However, I'd be dropping a big flare pattern behind me and assign 1 guy to the top of the hill to alart motorists if I was going to be there a while.

In Georgia, if the vehicles are driveable they have to move out of the road according to law. I dont know how many lanes you have on this road or anything else, but if you have a hill or more than one lane and the vehicles are not moveable, we take one plus one. That is we take the lane the accident is in plus one. If there is a hill and the people coming the other way can see to the top of the hill, why not park the apparatus at the top warning people to slow down.

We use a type of rubber chalk that will mark the vehicle tire locations, and then put a F for where the front of the vehicle out of the roadway, I also work for a sheriffs office and we'll agree completely with you on the fact that the people are a hell of a lot more important than getting a perfect picture on what happened.

sounds like around here. You can have personnel with vests & signs as well as a truck with rotators going and they'll still go by you barely slowing up some (we have almost had personnel hit, myself included). And heaven forbid thats its night time or bad weather (or a combination of the two). Thats when you can tell the veteran truckers from the young guys.

It's no big deal. P.D. can investigate the scene without all the checkers on the board. An exception might be a slam-bam with lots of blood and gore and a fer sure look-see when it's all over, and maybe multiple victims.
