a little unsure of where to post this, sorry if it in the wrong spot...
Im not going to lie most of the people in in station (juniors, firefighters, everyone) use some form of tobacco on a daily basis. Honestly i thought this was simply the norm until we visited another junior firefighter post and found out they get kicked off for using tobacco products. I really want to hear your thoughts on firefighters and juniors who use tobacco products as well as what rules your station has for both firefighters and junior firefighters who use tobacco products. My station really doesn't care, the only real rule is you have to take your dip out/put your smoke out during our meetings/trainings and this is only for safety. Thank you for your help!! stay safe
our patrons have to go to the truck bay for now, hopefully soon smoking will be banned in all public places, if you cant do it i should you be allowed in the bars or restaurants in pa why then in the fh as far as chewing our chief found one of someones spit cup the shit hit the fan this was his only warning if it is again the whole hall will be tobacco free, i have always felt since my friends chewed in school, if ur man or woman to chew the be proud enough to swallow it it is ur own spit swallow buddy
Art, No need to apologize, your reply was not the one of the posts that I was referring to. Your attempt at humor was pretty good actually, even though the implications of real men swallowing has some other overtones which are about as rude as having a dip while wearing a SCBA... and yes, that's sarcasm on my part. Wouldn't want you to be alone here. TCSS, Mike : )
i havnt went in to a fully involed house fire with a dip in.. i have went into a rekindle with one in but it wasnt burning good..to clear it up some for yall.. i dont take my face pice off to spit i just swallow it so no harm done...
There aren't any "fully involved" house fires you are going to go inside of. I think it is irresponsible and foolish to assume the task of dipping while wearing a SCBA. If something hits you in the head you now became a choking victim inside a burning house while wearing an airpack. Guess what? YOU CAN'T TELL YOUR PARTNER WHATS WRONG! What a LODD report THAT would be to read
There should be no discussion. If you use tobacco you should be out. How do you know when you die from cancer if its the stuff you put in your body or the fires you respond to. If you don't use tobacco then your chances of your family winning that court battle will be much higher. If you use tobacco then you don't care about your fellow firefighters, your family or yourself. Most departments in California will not even talk to you about a job if you tobacco.
I know what to say now.... how on earth do you have time to think about your dip when you're responding to or at a fire? Is dip really that important, are you that addicted and hoping to have your iner thigh grafted to your face and lips when you lose them that you would risk choking and swallowing that poison? I'm just shocked.
Ok, my last comment. I have been fighting fires for 37 years and I have heard every reason in the book why not to do the right thing. I have seen how the things that you do that you think is ony effecting you. Let me set you in the right direction. When you die because you chew, smoke, not wear your seat belt, or just fat and lazy your troubles are over. Everyone elses troubles starts. Your crew, your family, your friends will have to deal with your decisions to abuse yourself. Funerals, guilt, cost of replacing you. Your parents fealing guilty, your department denying death benifits and the list goes on. Kids look up to the fiefighters as heros, do you realy want those kids to be like you. When they see you doing something stupid then that is saying it is ok for them to do also.
Well, how about that? The post I answered here has been removed! I have no idea who's post it was, I didn't attempt to remember the name.
So, was the poster I answered just blowing wind to say 'look how tough I am'? Maybe he was scared that someone in authority from his department might see his post, and take action to have him dismissed?
Or did he realise just how bad he made himself look.
I've added this comment for clarity. I don't want people to think I'm talking about whoever has the post before mine now.
