I was talking to another member today and she mentioned this to me, so I went to Jon's page and this is posted there:

HI TO ALL OF JONS FRIENDS. IT SADDENS ME TO INFORM YOU ALL OF HIS DEATH.HE DIED IN A HOUSE FIRE TRYING TO SAVE A CHILDS LIFE.IT'S STILL UNCLEAR TO WHAT HAPPENED BUT I'LL LET YOU ALL KNOW MORE AS I KNOW MORE

I would sure like to know more, but it saddens me that I had the honor and pleasure of exchanging ideas with Jon and before I could get to know him well, he has died in the line of duty.
My heart goes out to his family, friends, his fire department and his community.
It is a tragic loss.

I have a buddy on the Knoxville, TN Fire Department. I know they just had a double fatal at a house fire. I'll contact him and see if he has any info.

I called the fire department in Gate City, Virginia and only got an answering machine. I was able to talk to a resident in the area who just finished watching the local news and he said there was no mention of any fires. This is not to say nothing happened, just having a hard time finding the information. I would like to pass this along to Firehouse.com, and several fire bloggers like Stater911, Firegeezer an others to help spread the word of this LODD. We can't get it posted unless we can get some sort of detailed information. If anyone has details on this PLEASE post it as soon as possible. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Art,

Ive been on firefighterclosecalls.com and no mention of this...any new info.
Googled Huntsville, Knoxville; nothing in their news links.
Firehouse hasn't updated since yesterday morning.
Hopefully we'll hear something soon.
So far, I have come up empty.
I have some calls out.
BUT, I have the master list of fire departments in Tennessee with all contact information and Scott County, TN Fire and Rescue is not listed with the State of Tennessee. If they are a new agency, that could account for it.
As I said, right now, the only thing that I have found is the double fatal in Knoxville, TN; a mother and young daughter.
I am trying to get confirmation.
Under normal circumstances, we would already know where to send condolences and leave messages. A statement from the fire department should have been issued. I am at a loss so far.
But, I will keep digging.

Thanks, Spanner.
That is the condolence thread?
Which reminds me...
nah...same message as on his home page.....still no backup info....no details...nothing.
If no one else wants to say it, I will. I'm used to having my head on the block...
Any chance this is a hoax?
Same message apparently, with the exception of the time... one says 23:50 12-30, the other says 2:05, 01-01; but was posted in the LODD section. I have to agree with FASNY, I am wondering about the validity of this. No news on it anywhere, nothing from the secret list emails. No head on a block FASNY, I was thinking it the moment I read it.
I'm looking into this..but odd that absolutely nothing would be online about it, but given the holiday who knows. Will post if I find something that provides the details.
Dave
Not to mention the user account has posted several messages in the last day unrelated to this.
Sadly the thought had crossed my mind about a hoax too.
Of course would prefer it to be some sick joke rather than truth.
But like Web Chief said, it is a holiday and an official report may be delayed.
