COME WITH THE RIGHT ATTITUDE , WATCH ,LISTEN AND LEARN . LEARN FIRST WHERE THE TOOLS ARE ON YOUR RIG. WHAT YOUR RIDING POSITION IS AND WHAT YOU DO FOR THAT POSITION,WHAT TOOLS TO TAKE. THE MOST IMPRESSIVE THING A NEW FIREFIGHTER CAN DO, IS WHEN ASKED AT A JOB TO GET A TOOL IS TO GET IT ,WITHOUT SEARCHING THE ENTIRE RIG FOR IT.
GOOD LUCK,BE SAFE
Listen more than you talk.
Ask more questions than you give advise,
and do more working than setting.

THE BEST ADVICE IS LOOK AND LISTEN AND ASK ALOT FROM MY FAMILY TO YOURS BE SAFE AND GOD BLESS FIREFIGHTER
Train twice as hard as you think you can, listen twice as much as you think you should and speak half as much as you want to!! lol Volunteer for everything, be the victim, that way you can see another angle of a rescue operation. Volunteer to do something even if you aren't sure how during training. Listen to the guys/gals who have been around and want to share their knowledge.
Stay strong, work out hard, don't let it slip. Wear your seatbelt, wear all of your PPE, if you're the last to take off your face mask while overhauling, that's okay. Retain your health, it's the one thing you can control (to an extent).
And when on a call, listen to everything and everyone around you. Learn while you go, don't allow the adrenaline to take over. Control your breathing (you are going to be excited) and do what you've been taught. Trust your instincts, but trust your officers'.

Be a part of the crew and enjoy! Congratulations.
Pace yourself.
If you're in a hurry, you will miss something.
That "something" could cost you dearly.
And agree to disagree. But do it with respect.
TCSS.

Stephanie,
The best thing I can say is congrats for taking that first step to becoming a firefighter. Go into it open minded and do not let anyone tell you that you can't do it. You can!!!!! As an instructor here and teaching the Vol. Certification class, I see a lot of females out do their male brothers!!! So learn as much as you can and don't let anyone stand in your way..
