If you could go back 20, 15, 10 years would you still join the fire service if you knew then what you know now? Going through all of the heartache, family time lost, and loss of your brothers/sisters along the way?

Absolutely without the shadow of the doubt. I love my career and feel humbled to be able to do what I love doing. I am living the little kids dream job. I get to jump in the engine, throw the lights on, hit the airhorn and siren, and go to town. What else could I do....nothing. What else would I do...nothing.. No changes , no regrets ever.

Yes and No!

Yes, I would do it all again, but knowing what I now know, I'd probably limit the exposure to some of the trauma at such a young age. There's no doubt it's affected myself and plenty of friends as well in terms of CIS, etc....
NOT ONLY WOULD I DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN I WOULD'VE STARTED @ 18yrs OLD I WASTED 9 YRS I 'VE BEEN ON THE DETROIT FIRE DEPT. FOR OVER 21YRS FIRE FIRE FIRE FIRE EVERY WHERE MAN DO I LOVE THIS JOB.
ive deen in 20 years dest jod in the world :-)
15 years? I would have joined. As it was I didn't even go near the Station as I had the stupid idea that I wasn't of any use as I worked out of area. Stupid.
I would do it again in a heart beat.

Yes there are sacrifices we make but I think our families understand about the importance of what we do. So yes I would not change a thing.
only being in th service for 3 yrs i would have done this 10-15-20 yrs ago yes yes often wonder why i never did it way sooner
I just wish I would have done it sooner, This is the hardest but most rewarding field I have ever been in, and I would do it all over again and again Etc.
I keep trying to tell everyone at my station I may be 44 but you better move faster than me if you wanna go in, doing this job makes me feel 10 years younger than I am.
would i join again? in a heart beat! would i do things different? not when it comes to the fire department sure there are other things i would change but thats a whole other post....lol
I'm struggling with this one. Don't get me wrong I love being a volunteer, but there are times when I wonder why do I put up with it. If I didn't have to put up with all the BS, drama and what not, I'd probably would but my wife would definitely have different ideas.
Ya I think I would of still joined. I may of went down a differant path and got my Medic licence so I could of done more to help others. This year makes over 35 years in the service and still get the thrill like a rookie evertime the tones drop.
