I am attending school for my undergraduate degree. I am currently undecided on my major and was wondering if i can can any input on my plan.
I am between majors, Secondary education, or Political Science. With either of these would be used for a second career, or on my down time: a part time job.
A second career is necessary, with my pension, and 401k.
I am considering substitute teaching, or the public administration for city services.
Teaching would be a great part time job that you could continue into full time if you ever wanted. Political Science for ??????
Public Administration could assist you moving through the ranks of the fire department. Nursing is another that could be a great part time job. YOu have so very many options. Just look for what you are passionate about and pick something along those lines. Good Luck!!
If your university offers and Emergency Medical Services Degree that could also be an option.Grad with a 4 year degree and as a Paramedic. This would Im sure make your advance in your career and you could work part time in a hospital or private ambulance service.
Have you explored the possibility of minoring in something??? Major in Public Admin and minor in Education etc.
Or you could always just major in Fire Science and cut grass part time like every other fireman ha ha ha.
Really think about your end goals. Are you planning on a full career as a firefighter or Paramedic or educator? I teach on my days off, however it is Paramedic and fire School. But my Director of Paramedic program suggest in majoring in Education. I also have an A.S. in Fire Science. I will be starting on a 4 year program of Public Safety Administration. Hope this helps a little.
