since 9-11 we all have had to take 6-7 nims classes and why? it is almost the same stuff in each class just alittle more indept. why not just make it one class and cut out the whole crap of 6-7 classes for which you could have 1 or2. or do the little rural departments really even need this training? most of it seems like more big town oriented. feed back is gold. be safe

I just finished 300 & 400 which was taught by state instructor, I don't Know if I will ever use it or not but the classes were very informative. I had already had 100,200,700, and 800, seems strange the order you have to take the courses.
Well, I would have to say...yes, the little departments do need it. It may not come in very handy most of the times, but then again, you never know when a disaster could strike, and all of a sudden you will be in a huge situation with more resources than you have ever seen. The information is valuable, just wish they could make it more palateable! LOL Yes, they are boring classes, and if someone could find a way to make them more interesting, then i think they would be a whole lot more effective! Good luck! May you retain more of the info than i did! :)
Our dept requested all officers take as many of the nims as possible,,,,,,Personally I think the old ics classes were a little better!
We have to take em down here, and the only reason we're really taking them, is they can affect your chances at getting grant money when u apply for them. them mandantory for the firefighters is the 700 and 100, officers have to do the 200 800 300 and 400. Its a good way to standardize, but its never going to work, all departments are still going to do things their way. Not that its a bad thing its just what we're accustomed to.
I had to take 100 &700 on my own via the EMI to come off of my first year probation... and did I honestly learn anything? Well sure. Was it something I think I needed as a rookie? Not exactly. Although I have completed a bunch of the classes, I'm still scatching my head and wondering why if I haven't had to apply any of it. As always, knowledge is power, but I didn't really gain anything from 100 & 700 on the individual basis... maybe if I had the option of taking it in a classroom setting it may have worked out a little better?
