Part 2 covers the candidates position on Domestic Energy Resources:

McCain
Expanding Domestic Oil And Natural Gas Exploration And Production

John McCain Will Commit Our Country To Expanding Domestic Oil Exploration. The current federal moratorium on drilling in the Outer Continental Shelf stands in the way of energy exploration and production. John McCain believes it is time for the federal government to lift these restrictions and to put our own reserves to use. There is no easier or more direct way to prove to the world that we will no longer be subject to the whims of others than to expand our production capabilities. We have trillions of dollars worth of oil and gas reserves in the U.S. at a time we are exporting hundreds of billions of dollars a year overseas to buy energy. This is the largest transfer of wealth in the history of mankind. We should keep more of our dollars here in the U.S., lessen our foreign dependency, increase our domestic supplies, and reduce our trade deficit - 41% of which is due to oil imports. John McCain proposes to cooperate with the states and the Department of Defense in the decisions to develop these resources.

John McCain Believes In Promoting And Expanding The Use Of Our Domestic Supplies Of Natural Gas. When people are hurting, and struggling to afford gasoline, food, and other necessities, common sense requires that we draw upon America's own vast reserves of oil and natural gas. Within the United States we have tremendous reserves of natural gas. The Outer Continental Shelf alone contains 77 trillion cubic feet of recoverable natural gas. It is time that we capitalize on these significant resources and build the infrastructure needed to transport this important component of electricity generation and transportation fuel around the country.

Obama

Invest in a Clean Energy Future
Invest $150 Billion over 10 Years in Clean Energy: Obama will invest $150 billion over 10 years to advance the next generation of biofuels and fuel infrastructure, accelerate the commercialization of plug-in hybrids, promote development of commercial-scale renewable energy, invest in low-emissions coal plants, and begin the transition to a new digital electricity grid. A principal focus of this fund will be to ensure that technologies that are developed in the U.S. are rapidly commercialized in the U.S. and deployed around the globe.
Double Energy Research and Development Funding: Obama will double science and research funding for clean energy projects including those that make use of our biomass, solar and wind resources.
Require 25 Percent of Renewable Electricity by 2025
Obama will establish a 25 percent federal Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) to require that 25 percent of electricity consumed in the U.S. is derived from clean, sustainable energy sources, like solar, wind and geothermal by 2025.
Develop and Deploy Clean Coal Technology
Obama will significantly increase the resources devoted to the commercialization and deployment of lowcarbon coal technologies. Obama will consider whatever policy tools are necessary, including standards that ban new traditional coal facilities, to ensure that we move quickly to commercialize and deploy low carbon coal technology.
ENERGY
Support Next Generation Biofuels
Deploy Cellulosic Ethanol: Obama will invest federal resources, including tax incentives, cash prizes and government contracts into developing the most promising technologies with the goal of getting the first two billion gallons of cellulosic ethanol into the system by 2013.
Expand Locally-Owned Biofuel Refineries: Less than 10 percent of new ethanol production today is from farmer-owned refineries. New ethanol refineries help jumpstart rural economies. Obama will create a number of incentives for local communities to invest in their biofuels refineries.
Establish a National Low Carbon Fuel Standard: Barack Obama will establish a National Low Carbon Fuel Standard to speed the introduction of low-carbon non-petroleum fuels. The standard requires fuel suppliers to reduce the carbon their fuel emits by 10 percent by 2020.
Increase Renewable Fuel Standard: Obama will require 36 billion gallons of renewable fuels to be included in the fuel supply by 2022 and will increase that to at least 60 billion gallons of advanced biofuels like cellulosic ethanol by 2030.
Set America on Path to Oil Independence: Obama’s plan will reduce oil consumption by at least 35 percent, or 10 million barrels per day, by 2030. This will more than offset the equivalent of the oil we would import from OPEC nations by 2030.
Increase Fuel Economy Standards: Obama will double fuel economy standards within 18 years. His plan will provide retooling tax credits and loan guarantees for domestic auto plants and parts manufacturers, so that they can build new fuel-efficient cars rather than overseas companies. Obama will also invest in advanced vehicle technology such as advanced lightweight materials and new engines.

Who cares about who will be the next President!!! All that really matters is he's not like Bush, won't bleed this country dry, will stand good on his oath in office, will get our women and men back home safely and can tell everyone overseas to "kiss our american butts".
Shocking...simply shocking.

If you don't care, than don't reply. This is for people on here to haver a civil debate on who the next president will be. Not bash our current one.
Well energy is a good issue but from where i stand we dont have a great choice this year whether your a democrat or republican. But i do have to say i will not support a Muslim, as our president not after what this country has been through. I will not support a man who refuses to wear an American flag pin. I will not support a man who claims that he was not allowed to visit wounded troops by the Pentagon when the Pentagon said no such thing. Now the energy issue. Investing in alternative fuels and drilling in Anartica and Alaska is great but it will take years to have any effect. Our Goverment needs to forget opec and go to these individual companies and say we are only gonna pay per barrell amount if they refuse go to the net one. If they all refuse sit and use our reserve which would last a lil over 30 days but within a week of losing that much money they would beg for us to use thier oil at our bargained price.

I'm not disputing your desire to be unsupportive of someone with these qualities, but assuming you are discussing Obama (since this is the person who has been the subject of those claims), where do you get the idea that this is the case? Please check your facts before making statements like that. In fact, it seems that there are many people out there who need to check to see if something is the truth before they take it as gospel. Try www.snopes.com which is a site that checks on the validity of popular urban legends and determines their truth or not.

If people did this more often, you'd probably get a lot less of those "forwarded" e-mails; as soon as someone sends one of those to me, I ask them, "Did you check to see if it was true? If not, don't send it to me, you're wasting bandwidth."
this wasnt a Chain email this was AP news thank you
I will not support someone that will not support the country. I wear the american flag on my uniform and have no respect for anyone that will not wear it or even respect it. Our country is at war and needs a leader that has been through the worst part of it. As for energy we are on our way to a crisis and need to start using our own. And elect a leader that will be firm with opec. If you havnt guessed yet I am for McCain not because I beleive a great person just the lesser of two evils.
I'll tell you what, guys- it's apparent that our attempt to work to enlighten people on both sides about what to expect from our candidates is going to be dominated by people who don't bother to check facts before making statements: http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/muslim.asp

There is discussion in there about the AP story as well and what it actually says. Since I can't seem to find any credible references after searching Google and Altavista for the flag story, all I can say is, I don't have the time or the patience to continue pointing out the fact that you aren't citing credible sources for your information. You say you read it on AP, well, show me the reference.

The sad part is that this whole thing just makes it look like I'm backing Obama; but if you said the same thing about McCain, I'd be defending this premise as well. BOTH candidates are deserving of having attention focused on their campaign for real issues, not something someone trumped up and circulated as a rumor. But you know, I kind of saw this coming and frankly, I'm not surprised.
LOOK at photos of him from earlier in the election
Against my better judgement, I am replying to this post.

So because someone isn't wearing an American flag pin means they WON'T wear an American flag pin? I guess using that logic, anyone of us who isn't wearing an American flag pin right now isn't supporting our nation.

Now that's good logic. I'd bet that John McCain is as patriotic of a man as you would ever find, but I'll bet I can find a picture of him someplace without a flag on him (not that I'm interested in even attempting to do so).

It's apparent that your mind is made up so I'm not about to try to change it. Just do us a favor and keep the unsupported arguments to a minimum so we can discuss the true issues at hand. I'd like to know where both candidates really sit on the issues, not whether or not they subscribe to the Enquirer or if they wear tie-dyed underwear. I'd like to know that if I vote for McCain or if I vote for Obama, it's because they are the right person to lead the nation forward based on real issues of the day.
oh yeah brother your top notch on every issue
No, actually you are using a deductive fallacy; that is, just because you are making an observation that may be true (Obama is not wearing a flag pin), it doesn't support your premise (that because he is not wearing a flag pin, he doesn't support the nation).

You show me (in a credible source) where he has stated that he doesn't support wearing the pin and I'll say, okay, you are right. Until then, don't get your panties in a wad because someone has pointed out that you are using flawed logic to defend your side of an argument. When you come back with some real facts, let us all know. Unlike you, I think there's a few of us out there that would love to hear your side. It's called having an open mind.
I'll tell you what, Nick. As much as I'd love to continue this little debate, I've got a lot to do and especially since I've got to go back on the road this week, I'm not going to continue to hash this out via mobile. All I'm trying to say to you is that I am willing to take your side of this discussion if you can show me evidence that it is true. That's all I am asking. I'm not supporting either candidate, I'm just asking for some truth to be shared.

I am not interested in pushing your buttons nor making this personal, because it isn't. I don't know you- you are probably a great guy. I just don't buy in on the premise that because someone doesn't happen to be wearing a flag pin that it makes them a poor candidate for office.

Part of what makes this country one of the the greatest nations in the world is that we encourage debate. Our country was founded on dissent. If we had marched in lockstep with the Loyalists back in the 1700's, we'd all be in a little different situation today.

What we (Allen and I) were trying to do is entertain the thought that we could get feedback straight from the candidates on their positions on emergency service issues. I don't have time to continue to argue this point, but I struggle with the negative blogs and false stories that continue to pop up on the internet (and in "legitimate" media) that are based in fantasy, not in fact.

I am asking to call a truce here, because it is apparent that you aren't happy with this discussion and like I said, I'm not interested in making this a fight. If you can point out to me the facts, I'm happy to listen. I hope you can accept this apology for my taking this down this road and I hope you can see what we are trying to do.

Thanks.
