A roof ladder? If your going to vent a roof on a 4:12 pitch roof, your better on the stick. You get on to a roof ladder and thats when you'll fall. Truck belts and fall arresters are of little help due to truck belt, like said by Dave, lack of movement. fall arrester, you'll hit the ground first. This is basic Truck op's 101. And for ALL US MANLY MEN HERE, I never stop to huff and puff! (*cough* bull sh*t) ;-) Now I truly do never huff and puff cause here in the big city I use a chain saw. ;-) And I know women rock, but only some. I have seen my fair share that I would trust MY life to, but.... not ALL women rock. And if this was a guy, no no more harsh than now.

Ok so someone answer me this...I'm reading all the post's on here about how she's a woman the "Way to go Girl!!!!! You show them...... ", would this reaction be any different if this were a guy doing this same thing, would you guys come down on him harsher? as i'm typing this i am watching the video at the same time.....A) how many times did she stop to catch her breath/look like she was exhausted? B) just before the 2min mark look closely you will see the ax slips, what says she misses and takes out that leg she has by the vent hole..she has no where but down to go..C) 2:07 mark look by her left foot on the ladder...yes folks that's her helmet....if they didn't want you wearing it then you wouldn't of gotten it with your turn out gear....it has a chin strap....CLIP IT ON AND TIGHHTEN IT UP!!! You and I both know what she's doing isn't safe, and like said before, she safety officer should of caught that....they have roof ladders for a reason guys....use them!

Ah yes....the age old where's your helmet?? Wheres your SCBA?? Helmets are used for protection of your head from falling objects, I didnt see the sky falling! They also have a nasty habit of falling off. Her SCBA was probably right where it should be for the roofman...on the truck. You do not wear them on pitched roofs!!!!!! So she got a little smoke n her eye...your afraid of alittle smoke,...BECOME A COP! Yes, the ladder may have been placed better....buuuuuttttt......i am sure she placed it where the engine companies gave her and did the best she could with what she got! Ahh the Ladder belt comment. Ladder belts are used to secure you to the ladder, the yare great for ladder pipe ops, it will allow you to move about 6 to 8 inches ....explain how a ladder belt will be used in opening a roof? Its not....and she is working on the stick....its the same as working on a roof ladder. Our roofmen will usually put multi holes in a building, they do this by walking or straddling the peak of the roof away from the sticks and cutting and venting as they make there way back to the sticks. We have learnt that 1 4x4 hole does not always do the job in venting due to the attics being compartentized. Our SOP calls for atleast the first two due ladder company's send a roofman to vent.

Ok woman FF's rock, but lady where is your SCBA and helmet at?
Comment by Pararescue on December 4, 2010 at 6:43pm
What's the issue? She did lose her helmet. So now they have nothing to put her i if she falls. She is on a stable platform and opening up. The truck placement could be better, but ehh. As for the smoke, does everyone see how the wind is at her back, as it should, and she's not getting any smoke in the face? This is a non issue in my opinion.
