In the 96´ summer , the city major was out of the city, and I , as the Civil Defense director ( and a friend of him ) in charge of the city. At 18:00 aprox. I received an urgent call from my 911 operators telling me : " An allien ship is landed in top of the Carbon hill !! ".....

Failing to plan is planning to fail. This is thinking outside the box, regardless to belief of the existance the fire service needs to be ready just in case. We plan on just in case, that is what makes us the ones usually in command. It is like sending the Marines in to get the scene ready for the extended stay of the Army.

I think holding exercises for unique events would help responders. My company is involved in exercises, and they are always the same (fire, spill, etc) and the participants seem dethatched and going through motions. I think just to shake things up, and getting responders to think outside the ordinary, there should be an exercise scenario thrown in such as UFO crash, zombie virus outbreak, and other movie type disaster. Thoughts?
