For added realism, take old hose which may not be suitable for interior firefighting. Plug and cap both ends with a valve and air connection at the female coupling. "Charge" the hose with air, using just enough to expand it a little. Especially useful if you utilize a "spaghetti bowl" and the have to reverse direction to find their way back out. Helps you remember how to read the couplings.
Thanks for the reply Crystal. You'll see in an earlier post that we are career department. It's easier to gather rope than it is to gathetr hose. Cover their masks with press-n-seal and it doesn't matter what time fo day it is. Covering their masks with hoods doesn't work here.
We want to train but be response ready - that's the key. Thanks for looking and hope this works for you.
we didn't do the drill with tools because we don't want to tear up the playground equipment.
This drill can be performed numerous times on the same playground depending on how you run the rope. Using tools and damaging stuff will get you kicked off...
Here's an idea for good Firefighter Safety...This would be an awesome drill in the evening if you put a hoseline through it and put your SCBA on live air, placed your hood backwards over your face mask and helmet on. Turn loose your firefighters. From experience, they'll be a little disoriented (especially if they don't see the playground all set up for the drill). You could use several hand lines and over lap the main line, try to confuse them... make them do their survival technique of Long Lug Out, use a right or left hand search!!!!!! GREAT IDEA! Thanks!
Thats a great training drill thanks for the idea,my guys have been wanting a new challange, any opposition from the kids wanting to play while you were training? LOL.
Hi Guys. At our station we have something similar. Difference is.... They use a smokeroom. It is dark and they set the temperature "very" high''(one day it was set so high the concrete floor cracked-hahaha. The room is the also filled with smoke. "Patients" dummies are then hidden in the room. There are obstacles everywhere. When the guys come out of there they have blisters everywhere. Maybe you guys should come over and play here for some fun.
