WITHOUT QUESTION.....
..we ALL want to respond to fires-get there quick-and do what we joined to do.
HOWEVER....
WE HAVE TO ACTUALLY ARRIVE.
EVERY YEAR ABOUT 25% OF US DIE NEEDLESSLY IN APPARATUS
AND RELATED EMERGENCY VEHICLE CRASHES....
and when that happens:
WE DON'T ARRIVE AT THE FIRE.
WE END UP HURT OR HURTING.
WE END UP DEAD OR WE END UP KILLING.

FOR WHAT ??

APPARATUS DRIVERS: SLOW DOWN-STOP AT RED LIGHTS & STOP SIGNS.
FIRE OFFICERS: ENFORCE THE LAWS AND FD POLICIES.
FIREFIGHTERS: SEATBELTS. NO LAME EXCUSES.

ENOUGH.

It's pretty sad when what sounded to me as a young girl saying "he didn't even check the intersection"
The operator of the apparatus needs to know if the truck does not get there it will not do any good at all

well, there are some drivers in this world that actually stop at an intersection, but that guy dident even slow down, and that could cause the truck to make the ladder come out of its bed, and boom, no ladder. That driver needs a little more training

Yeah, we've got one too. I don't get scared very easily but one day I was in the pass seat of our ambulance and the driver blew through a red light at 55MPH!! Let me tell you, I had a few choice words with him after that one. I am the safety/training officer for our dept. so he got suspended from driving untill completion of a defensive driving course.

Funny you put this up, I was just having a talk sesion with my chief and capt beacuse of this. We have a few drivers that fell they do not need to stop or even slow at intersection, and we all know what happens when we do not use smarts instead of adrelin to drive with.
