The high level of training that is required before you are hired, I think you should have at least FF2 and an EMT basic before you are able to join a full time FD, then you can go on with more training as you need it.
about your idea to join the usaf to become a firefighter, i was a civilian firefighter, and joined the usaf, i am in firefighting technical school right now. its a bitch totally sucks, if you want to know more just ask, but i would stay civilian more $$$$$
