Rochester Firefighters responded this afternoon for a boat fire on Smith St. While responding, the assignment was upgraded for multiple calls reporting a boat on fire. Engine 5 was on location with nothing showing being directed to the rear of the structure. Engine 5 further reported black smoke from the rear of the structure. Battalion 2 took command and reported a 60 foot boat fully involved inside a two story 200×600 structure. A second alarm was struck along with a special call for two foam pumpers. Engine 17 responded as the RIC while Quint & Midi 5 and 6 along with Engine 1 responded as the Second Alarm. Engine 3 and 12 were special called for their foam and Truck 3 was special called to assist. The fire was under control in about 1 hour and 43 min and the cause is under investigation.
