Why I Joined Fire/EMS
As a child, my father read many books to me about firefighters, and took me to all the firestations and fire lookout towers in the state we lived in. I knew I wanted to become a firefighter some day, and also was very interested in anything medical. My mother was very sick while I was growing up, and so the FF's and EMS were often at our home and were always so kind to me. For a while I wanted to become a HotShot. I did many different things for a while during and after college, then when I attended University, had the opportunity to join a fire department right beside my school. September 11 happened and my heart told me I was doing the things I loved most and wanted to do for the rest of my life....fighting fires and working on an ambulance and maybe someday Life Flight.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
Helping people, yeah, I know, I am usre a zillion others have said the same thing, but it is true, Being able to make a difference in someones life. Stoping the fire from totally destroying all they have, rescuing their dog or cat, pulling the patients out of a wrecked car, assisting a hurt and screaming, scared child on the way to the ER...yes we lose the battle on many fires, we lose tives every day, but if we can save one life...its worth everything,
Top Issues Facing Responders:
We need more funding and community support, and I am sure many other things

Thanks for getting back with me. That's pretty neat- EMT-IV, huh? I keep hearing that the EMS world is heading toward having the Basic level turn into what is currently our Intermediate level (IV's and so forth) and have only that level and the Paramedic level. It'll be interesting to see how this profession continues to change. I just hope I can manage to keep up with it! Talk to you later,

Hello from Ohio! What is EMT-IV? In Ohio, we've got Basic, Intermediate and Paramedic levels. I hope you get to feeling better and back on the trucks. It is no fun not to be able to do this stuff.
