You are in Level A PPE, your SCBA fails, how long can you survive?

From my friends at CSTI:

Do you ever wonder how long your air supply would last if your SCBA conked out? There your are, in a world of chemicals, any one of them would kill you in a heartbeat, and then... your SCBA fails... Uh oh... So here's an answer to my own question for you to ponder and... think about.

The attached graph comes from an article in Applied Occupations and Environmental Hygiene, Volume 14:443-448, 1999 (that’s the journal published by ACGIH).

Interesting gragh. I have heard that in today's smoke environment the LD50 fire a residential structure fire has been estimated at 4 breaths. The bottom line is that if you run out of air in today's world, you die - makes air management vital for all departments. Firefighter safety is still the most important priority at any fire call.
