Heart Attack...

I wanted to share with all my friends here in FFN that I have suffered a heart attack which luckily was caught early. Last night I had really bad heartburn which at first I thought was the flu. Testing revealed two affected arteries, one blocked 100% and the other 95%. I had a stint put in for the… Continue

Taking fire department training videos to a new level...

My daughters boyfriend just graduated with honors from the prestigious Pasadena Art Center College of Design with a BFA in Film Production - Editing, and with honors. Being the dad, attending the graduation, I had no idea that the guy dating my daughter was so damn talented. Needless to say, I still feel amazed knowing that this kid has a really bright future ahead of him. Don't you just love creativity and brilliance?

Unfortunately, the fire service is not…

An Airbag Deployment Question for Auto Extrication Enthusiasts

Can an airbag actually be deployed/activated by a smack from a pedestrian? If so, it makes me a little more nervous dealing with an airbag in a MVA that may or may not go off... Any thoughts here?

Four Steps of Group Interaction:

1. Forming

2. Storming

3. Norming

4. Performing

Forming: When you first meet someone, you form an immediate opinion of someone based on many things such as how… Continue

Fishing Stories and the Cool Cat...

Ok, so many of you know that I celebrated my 55th birthday with some other firefighters at a local lake that included some fishing. So why not another fish story? Here's mine...

We drove down to the shoreline and saw a boat anchored off the shore and assumed it was owned by a friend of ours. With this being the mind set, I went out to the boat, climbed aboard and noticed a fishing pole in the water with some slack line laying on the surface... What an opportunity for some quick down… Continue

How they used to respond...

I came across this cool quick video showing how we used to respond to calls... I found it very cool and retrospective. But then again, after posting this and actually watching the whole video, it's a loop with an advertisement. Pretty smart of these folks to capture our attention and then make sure you see the hook... Welcome to America... : )… Continue
