teen hits N.C. Firefighters at 10-50

Greensboro, N.C. — A 16-year-old driver plowed through the scene of an earlier traffic accident, injuring two Greensboro firefighters early Sunday.

The teen driver did not stop for emergency lights and road flares surrounding a wreck scene at Creekridge and Randleman roads, according to the Greensboro Fire Department.

Firefighters J.N. Harvey and L.D. Boone tried to get out of the way, but the girl's vehicle struck them. The vehicle hit another vehicle, but the driver continued on. Greensboro police officers stopped her a short distance away.

Both Harvey and Boone were expected to make a full recovery after being treated at Moses Cone Hospital. Harvey returned to duty the same day.

Police were testing the teen, whose name was not released, for impairing substances. There was no word yet on any charges.

Just goes to show that the teenagers are a threat to the emergency workers also. The person that gave her the impaired substance should be charged also. There has to be a reason for the crazy driving.

When will people learn that no matter how many lights we have, how many pieces of apparatus are on scene or even if we wear the "safety vest", there are always going to be people who claim not to see us, are too impared to see us, are too busy on their phone, ipod, mp3 player, doing hair and makeup, shaving or whatever to see us. Until it is made perfectly clear what you should do and what the consequences will be if you don't ( and real consequences, not a slap on the wrist) the general public does not and will not care.
We mourn those who have been killed at scenes by the motoring public yet we fail to act, fail to insist to the lawmakers that this is a always serious crime, not just if the driver was impaired. We need to stand up and take a stand for ourselves and our fellow responders.

Disgusting. Another sick reality to ALWAYS watch you back on scenes of MVA's and never ASSUME it's safe until the roads closed down. I wish both firefighters well and a speedy recovery

Should be charged as an adult and no driving ever again. Gotta keep the public safe.TCSS
