Notes from a Rookie Firefighter...October 15, 2009
It's funny...I realized the reason I have been writing on this blog less is because I write all day long for a living.
I went to see a therapist the other day to learn how to cope with mentally ill and drug addicted children I have in my life. On the initial intake, the therapist asked me what I do in my free time. My answer was hang out with the old timers at my firehouse and listen to stories.
That didn't really sit well with her.
Then she asked me who I confide in. My answer was my sister, and the old timers at my firehouse.
Do you see a pattern?
And then came my hobbies...online scrabble, Google, and mowing the lawn.
As I walked through the rainy streets of Chatham, NJ this afternoon, I thought boy, do I need help.
In all fairness to me though, I have learned so much from the 4-5:30 hour at my firehouse: how to tell if my oil tank was leaking, what kind of outlets I needed to replace in my basement, the name of a roofer, landscaper, plumber, and a mechanic. Oh yes, we cannot forget that I recently learned the correct way to march during the Sussex County Parade, and what a hose relay is. And our company won both trophies in both events.
I am not sure I need a therapist.
Thanks for reading as always,
