Well after 110 hours without power we finally have light and heat. As the snowman says in the beginning of Rudolph..." It was the year of the big storm..." This started on Thursday the 11th, no snow just ice, and freezing rain...lots of ice and freezing rain. Once I was able to get the kids to my Mom's (no power outage there) it was off to the Fire House to help man the station and help out with the "guests" we had living in our meeting room. Oh yeah, also running home every once in a while to check on our own home. One of our fire trucks was totaled when a tree fell on it, no injuries though. And a couple of homes in our county were lost to structure fires (again, no injuries or deaths), none in our district although we were on mutual for some. Alright, the storm was pretty nasty, lots of power lines and trees down, but we haven't cancelled Christmas yet. Although the meteorologists are predicting another storm on Friday, one on Sunday and one Christmas Eve into Christmas Day. Keep you posted

Its freezing rain as we speak, a little snow on the ground, and freezing rain hitting the window! Let the fun begin!

We had our big storm last year. It was horrible, we didn't need boots, we need it skates. There where trees on the roads left and right because of the weight from the ice. Some of the houses where with out power for about 5 days. We are under the warning just like Trainer, I just hope it doesn't turn out to be like last year.

Our storm is suppose to hit this afternoon, maybe an inch of precipitation, start out as snow/freezing rain then change to all freezing rain. Right now we are under an ice warning, never seen that before, up to an inch. Last time this happened was in February 08, lost power for 3 days. That was right after we had the new generator installed at the station, only place in town with power, we cooked meals, and although we never housed anyone, on the last day before power was restored, we had ordered all elderly to evacuate, and started to put up the cots. Thankfully the temps were not below zero.
