My department is looking at purchasing G-XTREME bunker gear, I have some real concerns about the 32" coat length compared to the 35" coat length. If you wear this gear, what coat length do you wear and what are the pro's and con's to the lengths.

Thanks for your input.

Generallywhen you purchase G-extreme gear someone will come to measure you and custom fit you. They should check and determine the length of coat needed.they usually bribg different sizes of gear to try on check for fit. They have you try on your coat with bunker pants and have you raise your arms up and bend over to check fit.

We just recently started the process of changing our gear over to GXtreme... just a couple of sets at a time for the guys who really need it and when we can afford it. I dont have the new stuff yet and dont really need it seeing as my gear is in fairly good shape but I know the new guys that do have it love it. I really havn't heard any complaints about the shorter coat but they say they love not having to wear suspenders on EMS runs lol.

We have been using GXtreme gear for the past few years now also and never had a problem with it at all. The gear is good enough for use Army guys and gals.

i personally use quaker turnout gear and it has served me well and ive had it in a couple fires now and im here to say that it has kept alot of me, now the coat that i have is 32'' in the front but its 36 '' in the back or the front my coat doesn't rise at all theres about a 3 to 4 inch over lap in the front of my coat, but thats quaker i have used globe and ive tried on g xtreme and i personally did not like it i dont feel safe with having my coat short in the back cause i always see coats get bundeld up in the back in some firefighters which they have to try to get theyre coat fixed brfore they go in

I believe that the standard calls for the coat must overlap the pants at the waist by a minimum of 8 inches.
So, if you raise your hands above your head as if to pull ceiling and your coat rises to expose your midsection, then the coat is obviously too short.
You may want to check the standard before you purchase.
TCSS.

this is all my dept uses too and we love it i cant tell you anything about the different coat lengths though but we have recently started switching to the newer version of the G-Xtreme which is call Reaxtion i think and in my opinion is a little better than the G-Xtreme as far as heat protection goes but we get our coats with the 32" length

Love the gear. It is all we buy! We just had a guy fall into a fully involved basement and was pulled out immediately. Direct flame contact. Not a mark on the kid. Truly amazing protection, comfort, etc.

I don't even wear suspenders anymore. This new gear is sized for superior fit.
