I feel torn between generations

The older guys still remembering how things were done back in the day want no change and would rather stay in 1970 and keep doing things the same way. Although they are believers in the chain of command they have been in charge for so long that they fail to realize that there are others out there besides themselves to answer to and for. They also typically have the mindset that if it wasn't their idea it's no good. They are also quick to criticize for the ideas and actions of everybody no matter who they are.

Then you have the younger generation who is full of piss and vinegar. They will do anything you ask them to in an attempt to prove themselves. They just want to do a good job, learn a little from everybody and fit in .Be part of the team so to speak. They are a little bull headed at times and every now and then they will complain that nobody listens to them. Although some of their plans and or ideas are good there is always some doubt because they are fresh and new, not proven.

Finally you have my generation who is in between and can feel for both sides. It was not that long ago you were the young ones who wanted to take on the world. So in the back of your mind you can relate for that reason. you also see it from the older guys point of view. Knowing that good things take time and Rome wasn't built in a day. You try to be the mediator between the generations and they both get upset with you because of it. You want the older guys to take a step back and pass over the reigns and you feel bad for them because of all the time they have spent doing what we all love. You don't want them to go away but some will and some won't. you want the younger guys to step up to the plate and follow in your footsteps. You want the best for them because you know they are the future of the trade.you weed out the weak and the ones that just don't cut it and again you feel sorry for them, but some will drop out and others will stay.

Hopefully what you end up with is the best of all ages coming together as one. it is weird how it all comes together .The older generation has the knowledge and experience that they pass on. The younger generation has the energy and want to that will get it done no matter what the task is. Then there is the middle generation Not young enough to be part of that group and also not old enough to be part of the older guys. What is not realized is the middle generation is the strength that holds it all together. Give it some time and you to will become part of the older generation and hopefully you did your job and gave those young guys what they needed to become better leaders.

I wish that every new and old member would read this. It is what we preach as that "middle" group. The thing that i didn't realize is the fact that those older guys will slowly leave, now you musttake over and hope you listened to the old guys and still relate to the new ones as well. Letting them know that one day they will be where we are and we are now gone and it is up to them to keep things going.
