we all know that it takes dedication to be a firefighter/ems/ police!.
Its difficult for the average person to understand the dedication we put forth to the community and often we face criticism from people who just don't get it!
being part of a fire department whether its a paid dept or a volunteer one takes a certain amount of character that people only find they have after they have joined.
there are those who feel alone, depressed, and often mildly anti-social,
there are many who feel they have nothing to contribute to a fire department, ems, police, or other public organization.( this is often solved when they join the department)
yes we rib each other a lot but learn that if we don't rib each other then there is something wrong!
We become a family and its really nice to have your family around.
Its important for the departments to let the public know just how much we need them!
We host dinners every week at our firehouse ( 5 dollar dinners) for the public and we have a good turnout because people can get a meal, spend time chatting with each other or with department members! All are welcome.
there are various things we do for the community to foster goodwill and we are glad to do so.
these things include pet clinics, home safety classes, electrical safety, fire extinguisher training, smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detector training and inspection.
these things we do and many more and Im sure the other services do public awareness as well
so yes it takes dedication to be a fireman, police, and ems crew.
so my message to the public is join us we will be happy to have you, But if you choose not to we are still here for you.
