Today, I am an EMT-IV. I passed the National Registry exam this morning, putting me one step closer to my goal of becoming a career firefighter. That was probably the toughest test I have ever taken. I spent most of the afternoon thinking that I probably failed. I bet I checked the NREMT website 75 times between 11:30 and 3:30. I was the top student in my class, posting the highest scores on every test we took, and had no problem with the practical exam. But that Natl Registry made me question myself for the first time that I can remember. I am glad that its over though, as I need to focus on the hiring processes that I'm involved in. Since my last blog post, I have been hired as a reserve firefighter at the City of Maryville Fire Department, bringing the number of reserve or part-time positions I hold to three. I have taken the written test for the City of Alcoa Fire Dept, The City of Knoxville Fire Dept, and test tomorrow for the City of Maryville Fire Dept. I've already got Physical agility tests scheduled for Alcoa and Knoxville, and Maryville shouldn't be far behind. Surely with my EMT in hand, Firefighter 1 certification, and Hazmat Awareness somebody will give me a shot at full-time. I believe that I am gonna make some department a fine employee.
