Light weight truss constricton warning signs!!

Does anyone out there know of any signs warnig responders of truss roofs/floors? When I lived in NJ we had them and I just saw that FL is passing a law in honor of 2 fallen firefighters from 1989 who died when the trusses failed in a gift shop fire. I haven't seen any of the signs in GA where I live now. I have however seen a lot of truss roofs on the newer homes in my area. Just food for thought! stay safe -Matt

Well some warning signs is charing of the trusses of more than 1/4 of a inch, which is how far the gusset plate prongs go in, and you got the weight and fire intensity factors to involve

We have been giving out green number signs for our residents for the past few years. These are about 15 x 6 inches and have 3" reflective white numbers on both sides. They mount out on the mailbox post or other convenient mounting surface at the road.

Just this week we have started changing the green signs for RED signs for structures built of truss and/or lightweight construction. We are working with the code enforcement officer to identify and mark these structures.

That sounds like a good plan but I'm on a rural dept...no laptops yet. However I will bring this up at the next meeting! Thanks -Matt

I can tell you the best way to figure out whether a house has truss floors and roofs. It is relatively simple also. Fire code inspections are done in the building process. Having a good fire prevention department in your firehouse will allow you to have all the information about ANY given house accessable to you on scene with a laptop. Mark all the houses that are inspected as having trusses and where. Other than that, ALWAYS assume it has a truss roof until you have proof otherwise. When your roof team establishes vertical ventilation , they should be able to tell you if it is truss roof or not.

Be well and stay safe.
