so today i go down to the station to a medical call right, i ended up just on standby. so about 2 mins after i got there got a call for a car fire, so its me and another recruit and the district cheif, fire cheif, and the captan. so me and john get on the engine with the 2 cheifs and the capton took the duty rig. got up there told us to pull the preconnect, it was a fully involved car fire. it was a dodge ram 2500 so a pretty good sized pickup, so i pulled the line flaked it out and i had the nozzle and john had my back, put it out pretty quick and all the highest up people at the station saw us ( the 2 recruits and told us a we did great). i just have to say i love what i do voulnteering it is so much fun. just figured i would let all you guys no.

I remember my first fire! Mutual aid call, it was a relly big barn and i too was on the frist out pumper. When we arrived, we reported to staging and were assingned to an exposure. I had to climb a gate to get into position to fight the fire... only the gate was alot higher than i thought and down i went. I landed on my but in really deep water full of cow shit!!! My gear was only two weeks old. We all had to hang our heads out the windows cause it relly stank bad. The chief made me wash my gear and the insde of the truck. I guess i can look back and laugh about it now.

I remember my first run. 2 buildings at the same time, paint store and a auto mech shop. Will never forget that day, was there for 9 hours. You will have many types of fires, just be safe.

Way to go.
First fire and it wasn't real complicated.
However; don't ever treat vehicle fires as "routine". We have several every year along the interstate.
One year, we had a fire in a pick up. Guys had it loaded with stuff that they picked up from an "overstock" warehouse. They had all kinds of crap in the truck bed. One of them flicked their cigarette out the window and it landed in their stuff and caught fire.
We get there and proceed to put it out. There were aerosol cans exploding, batteries, whiteboards; you name it and it was burnt. While we were finishing reports, some of the guys, myself included, started experiencing tickles in our throats and we were starting to itch on the exposed skin areas.
It was caused by "cherry bomb insect spray". That was the aerosol cans exploding.
After this vehicle fire, I required that SCBA be worn at all vehicle fires. That was in 1998.
Moving vans and car haulers are a good time, too.
You'll always remember your first one and your last one.
TCSS.
