I am getting were I am not getting that exicted to do ems. Dont get me wrong I still love and always will. But we I first started I volunteer so much now its hard for me to still want to volunteer. I was doing ems like every other day sometimes everyday. I started to work for a ambulance transport company and I love it. This job now keeps me busy because I work full-time. I am going to still volunteer but not like I once did. I will always like those TRAUMA calls since that is part of the reason I got into this.

It's easy to get burned out - specially in a volunteer co. I've been doing it for 9 years and have seen a lot of the BS that goes with it beside the time spent on calls. I recently took 2 months off but I still did some of the extras so as not to dissappear. It helped but the "fire" that was once there at the start of my service I am not sure will ever be back. I too have found myself going to the "good calls" and not so many of the routine calls- it may not be the right thing to do but its still volunteer work and you do what you can. Stay safe

We all get burned out from time to time. I went hardcore with the vollies and had it happen. Got to the point I didn't even want to do the paid thing is was so bad. That is when you take a little "me" time. No one says you have to quit. Take some time off, and relax. Take a leave of absense. Do what you can to stay with it. If you really love the job, you'll find a way to get through it. You already have...you posted this blog!

Good luck, stay safe....and talk about it!

Don't be sfraid to step back and take a break.Emergency positions take a lot out on a person, not only mentally but physically. There was a time I felt overwhelmed and I had to take a step back and think how I got where I was.I was doin to much.I worked a part time job in retail, did 48's on an ambulance service every other weekend, was a volunteer firefighter with lots od duties to my department, all while tryin to be a good wife and raise a family.I got wore out fast.I quit the retail job and soon after quit the ambulance service.I'm still a volunteer firefighter with lots of duties and goin back to school to be a Instructor. We are not Superwomen,we can't do it all.Hope this helps.Feel free to chat anytime.
