A friend of mine posted this on MySpace. Its kind of a health warning, I suppose.

BUTTER VS. MARGARINE...
Margarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys. When it killed the turkeys, the people who had put all the money into the research wanted a payback so they put their heads together to figure out what to do to with this product to get their money back. It was a white substance with no food appeal so they added the yellow coloring and sold it to people to use
in place of butter. How do you like it? They have come our with the same clever new flavorings.

DO YOU KNOW....the differnece between margarine and butter?

Read on to the end. it gets very interesting!
Both have the same amount of calories.

Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats @ 8 grams compared to 5 grams.
Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of butter, according to he recent Harvard Medical Study.
Eating butter increases absorption of many other nutrients in other foods.
Butter has many nutritional benefits & margarine has a few because they are added! Butter tastes much better then margarine and it can enhance the flavors of other foods. Butter has been around for centuries, margarine has been around for 100 years.

And now, for margarine...
Very high in trans fatty acids.
Triple risk of coronary heart disease.
Increase total cholesterol and LDL {bad cholesterol}.
It lowers HDL cholesterl {good cholesterol}.
Increases the risk of cancers up to five times.
Lowers quality of breast milk.
Decreases immune response.

And here's the most disturbng fact...Heres the part that is most interesting...
Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC!!

This fact alone was enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated {this means hydrogen is added, changing the molecular structure of the substance}.

You can try this yourself...

Purchase a tub of maragrine and leave it in your garage or shaded area.
Within a couple of days you will note a couple things:
~No flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it. {that should tell you something}
~It does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional value;
~Nothing will grow in it;
~Even those teeny weeny microorganisms will not find a home to grow.

WHY?
Because its nearly PLASTIC!
Would you melt your Tupperware and spread that on your toast?

This may all be true about maragine, but I have used it just about all my life. I am 74 years old, a volunteer firefighter and emt-b, and as a kid during World War II, I can remember that my family could not get butter because of wartime restraints so we got maragrine. I can remember my mom letting me add yellow food coloring to make it look like butter. I actually like it better than butter. One thing I found is that eating a cracker with maragrine helps stop hunger pangs when I am on a diet. Marargrine never turns rancid like butter. If there were any studies that were done showing maragrine could do damage to you, I am sure there would be all kinds of lawyer ads on TV about how they could get hugh amounts of money from the companies that make it. And finally, my stool does not contain plastic globs or any tupperware that I aware of.
