A run away horse wagon ride during an annual festival in Wellsboro, PA tested Responders.

Wellsboro, Mansfield, Blossburg, Lawrenceville, Middlebury, Morris, and Valley responded with SSMH ALS to the scene. Unified Command was established with Asst Chief Boyce and EMS Asst Chief Lupkowski. Of significance was the number of resources that were available almost immediately and that actually hampered the smooth flow of the incident.

Triage

What went right: Primary Triage and taging using the "Smart Triage Sysytem" was effortless. Although not evident in the pictures lighting at the night scene was well done by rescue company via cord reels, stadium lighting and hand lights. Freelancing was almost nonexistant and orders were acted upon immediately. Many EMS folks followed through to hospital to lend a hand. Immediate post incident review on scene and later at hospital.

What could have been done better: Staging for incoming ambulances should be directed toward the secondary triage area where the patients will be prepared for transport. No transportation officer collected the tag info prior to hospital. ALS will take only one Priority 1 pt in ambulance. Difficult to stay in contact with hospital, scene, and dispatch because of fire ground channel limitations. Initially no one took over the EMS Command.

20 injuries, 6 shipped to trauma centers by ground (bad weather), balance treated locally. It was a great drill. Did I forget to mention that? :)
